Ant-Man was released this past weekend and viewers have the new Fantastic Four movie to look forward to in August. Superhero movies have become a staple in our culture now. Hey, I enjoy them and reading comic books is cool now. I’ve loved superheroes/anti-heroes since I was a kid reading my father’s comic books. I loved watching cartoons and movies featuring the characters. People with superpowers and abilities are extremely crushworthy. Here are my top five favorite male superheroes. Villains are not included on this list.
1. Gambit
Gambit will always be number one for me. From my earliest connecting with X-Men, he was my favorite. I thought he had amazing swagger and the way he called Rogue cher was just sweet. I love Gambit ever since. I’ve enjoyed keeping up with Gambit over the years and I will admit to being nervous about the upcoming portrayal of his character.
2. Thor
What can I say about Thor? I found his appearance and character fascinating as a child. I liked how he fought with a hammer. I think I might have tried to recreate Mjolnir out a regular hammer. It’s just not the same. I’ve always had a soft spot with characters who know they are awesome and aren’t afraid to show it. Thor is one of those characters.
3. The Flash
As a kid, there was nothing I wanted to do more than run fast. I wanted to beat kids at races. Therefore, The Flash was an inspiration to me even though I never obtained his speed. No matter who was donning the red suit, I admired them. The Flash is mostly a good guy and seems a bit more down to earth than other superheroes.
4. Green Arrow
Oliver Queen. Before Stephen Amell brought abs to the character, I liked him. I think perhaps the Green Arrow inspired my admiration and desire to learn how to use a bow. I remember seeing him first in the comic books and thinking he looked really cool with his hood and mask. He is still one of my favorite superheroes.
5. Spider-Man
I’ve always thought Spiderman was a hero for the average person. He was just a dorky teenager who had something extraordinary happen to him. I like how Peter Parker always tried to do the right thing, even when evil threatened to take him over. I wanted to be Peter Parker on numerous occasions. I wanted to be Mary Jane too so I could date him when I got older.
Honorable Mention: Wolverine
Stay tuned for the female list!
