Supergirl has been on people’s minds a lot lately. The trailer for the new CBS show was revealed, and people have been talking about it. As with any comic book adaptation, you either love it or hate it. Supergirl has fascinated people for decades with her strong attitude and her boldness in taking on the world’s evil. The most well-known and loved version of Supergirl is Kara. She is 100% worthy of crushworthy status.
Who is she?
Kara Zor-El, a.k.a Supergirl, appeared in DC Comics in Action Comics #252 in 1959. Kara is the cousin of Clark Kent/Superman. She escaped the disaster at Krypton in a similar fashion to her cousin. She was sent on a rocket headed towards Earth. After being trained, Kara became dedicated to protecting people and did not hesitate to take out the bad guys. She proved she could stand outside of her cousin’s shadow. Supergirl has had many live-action actresses and animation adaptations, the latest two being Laura Vandervoort in Smallville and Melissa Benoist in CBS’s upcoming Supergirl series.
Super Fact:
Kara is actually eighteen years older than Superman. Her rocket was stuck in the Krypton meteor field for that amount of time. Time enough for Superman to grow up.
Why so crushworthy?
Supergirl, I think, is a bit more willing to get her hands dirty than her cousin. I think she taps into more raw emotions than he does. I like this about her. She doesn’t have a perfect image to uphold. She is also quite fiery. The point is, you don’t mess with Supergirl. Don’t let her cute, innocent blonde look fool you. She will totally kick your butt. I like characters that can fool you. I like being surprised by aspects of their personality. Kara is like that, and I have enjoyed seeing different interpretations of her through the years.
Kara is willing take on the world’s evil with her own two hands. Her sense of justice is strong. As both Kara and Supergirl, she is unwilling to accept defeat. Kara is a bit of wild card, but I love that about her. Some superheroes are rigid in their beliefs and what action they are willing to take. Supergirl will take whatever action is needed to do the right thing. Supergirl has saved the day many times. She is a great role model for girls and definitely a crushworthy character to admire.
