The Final Fantasy series is full of crushworthy characters. Today’s character is from my second favorite Final Fantasy game. The cast of characters in Final Fantasy VI (III) is massive, and people generally talk about Terra or Shadow. My favorite character from the game is the lady general, Celes Chere.
Who is She?
Celes Chere is one of the main characters in Final Fantasy VI (III). Celes begins the game as a prisoner who turned against the Magitek empire. Celes is rescued by Locke Cole and begins fighting for the resistance. Even after leaving the Magitek empire, she is still a tough as nails soldier. Throughout her journey with the other characters, she grows to love and realize her place in the world.
Fun Fact:
Celes may or may not have been inspired by Joan of Arc.
Why So Crushworthy?
Celes is such a strong but fragile character. I loved how tough she was and watching her growth as a character. She was raised to be a super soldier but she ended up doing things she didn’t expect. She posed as an opera singer and fell in love. Celes is my favorite kind of character. She could kick butt and make you make you invested in her character all in one cutscene. I liked seeing her interact with other characters. She didn’t take romantic nonsense or insults from anyone. Terra was never as interesting as Celes.
Celes inspired some of my own character creations. She was meant to be one thing, a Magitek soldier, but she ended up finding her own path. She learned how to hope and care for others. She is also one lovely woman, even pixelated. Celes also gave us some wonderful quotes from the game.
“I’m a soldier, not some love-starved twit!”
and
“W… Wait! I’m a GENERAL, not some opera floozy!”
