Ah, it feels good to be back. This writer has been swamped with other assignments. I was lucky I got the article out last week. But I hope you can look forward to new material and a Cringeworthy Character this week. The Crushworthy choice of this week is famous in the Final Fantasy universe. She was a heroine worthy of stories. She predates the Lightning fad by a couple of years. People still love her and cosplay her. To me, she is one the best heroines of the game series.

Who is She?
Yuna is the female protagonist alongside Tidus in Final Fantasy X. She takes on the mantle of summoner to follow in her father’s footsteps to defeat Sin. Yuna managed to save Spira with her companions. She later returns with a new lease on life in Final Fantasy X-2 as a sphere hunter tracking down her lost love. Yuna is also a playable character in Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts II.
Fun Facts:
- Yuna is half human and half Al-Bhed.
- Yuna’s name means “moon” in the Okinawan dialect.
- Yuna’s dress great resembles traditional Ryukyuan (Okinawan) clothing.
- Yuna’s name is spelt with that Katakana characters ユウナ in the Japanese version of the game.
- I am sure to this day that Kimahri watched that whole water make out scene between Yuna and Tidus. Creeper.
Why So Crushworthy?
First, Yuna had one the most interesting character designs I’ve ever seen. I was in my “I love anything remotely Japanese” phase as a teenager. It was before I actually went. I have calmed down since. I thought Yuna was great. I wished my eyes were two different colors! After my initial awe of Yuna’s appearance I began to see other appealing traits. She was quiet and strong. I can relate to that. She was very young and had a huge burden on her shoulders. She carried it all with dignity and no complaints. She seemed super sweet at times to the point of a toothache but she was just that nice. I could deal with that. She was acting the way she thought she was supposed to. It was good to see her out of her shell in X-2.
Yuna grew up by the time X-2 came around. She was more open and outgoing. There was still the shy Yuna that popped up from time to time, but she was more adventurous. Admittedly, her mimicking Rikku was annoying. I was glad when stopped doing it. Yuna went through a lot in the previous game and now it was her time to be free. Even when pursuing the past, Yuna is driven and full of energy. She embraces her new life with open arms. Yuna is probably one of the bravest heroines in Final Fantasy. She is willing to do anything to save the day.
