I love accents. I really do. I like to listen to variations from all over the world. When the accent is combined with an equally awesome actor it’s amazing. When said actor is in a science fiction or fantasy series it just gets better. So, here are my picks for the actors with the best accents.
Warning: This is fangirl heavy and full of fangirl bias.
1. Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Castlevania)
The world came to know Richard Madden as Robb Stark. His career looks like it is growing as he is Alucard’s voice actor in the recent Castlevania games. I love listening to him talk. Madden is from Scotland so his voice just adds to my love of Scottish accents.
2. Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, The Hobbit films, Star Trek: Into Darkness)
This man’s accent is amazing. It sounds like dark chocolate — a British dark chocolate. His voice, like his acting, is very versatile. He can sound very menacing (Smaug) or insanely sophisticated. Benedict is from London so we get to hear his lovely city accent.
3. Josh Holloway (Lost, Intelligence)
Josh hails from my neck of the woods. I am not kidding. We both grew up in the same town in North Georgia. Josh makes the Southern accent sound glorious. They are plenty of actors with fake Southern accents on television but Josh has the real deal. When he tried out for Lost, he tried hiding his accent but the show wanted him to use it for Sawyer.
4. Sam Heughan (Outlander)
Yes, back to good old Scotland again. I’ve been uh.. watching quite a lot of clips of him since the Outlander news broke. I totally need to watch them for research purposes. It just helps he is very handsome and has a wonderful Scottish accent. Words do not express my excitement for the upcoming show.
5. Robert Sheehan (Misfits, The Mortal Instruments)
I fell in love with Sheehan’s voice when I checked out Misfits on Hulu. I really dig the Irish accent. I was sad when I couldn’t hear it in the TMI movie. I know Simon is Jewish but I love listening to Sheehan talk. Great accents should not be covered up.
Honorable Mentions: Alan Rickman, David Tennant, Chris Hemsworth
