@rose the rad sugar: Well, all it is was an infatuation with musicals in high-school (which still continues today) and years and years of singing in various choirs, musical productions and glee clubs. In actual fact, it was musicals that started getting me involved in music as whole.

On a side note, I would have done a top 10, and I was planning to do so, but I found out that I would have written too much had I continued, so I had to narrow the list down. Some of the other musicals I had in mind included a Sondheim and more Webber (Wicked and Miss Saigon to be precise), but they had to be cut.

awesome list!! i do love the choices and ordering… i almost wish you would have expanded into a top 10! it would have been really hard for me to narrow down and order.

@celeste
i think “bring him home” is a good choice as noteable song, although my faves are the bawdy funny jams like “lovely ladies” and “master of the house.” i think i would have included joseph too! before i even opened the article i was singing songs from it in my head.

paolo, what’s your background… your analysis overall and musical knowledge are both so impressive!

I personally can’t imagine a top five modern musical list without including something by Sondheim (my choice would be Into The Woods), but I’m happy to see Jesus Christ Superstar up there!

Great list! I wholeheartedly agree with your #1 (though for notable song I probably would have chosen “Do You Hear The People Sing?” or “Stars” — just personal choice though, “Bring Him Home” is also great). I probably would also have included Joseph… and The Secret Garden. Two of my faves =)
