Clearly any “best of” list will be based upon opinions – and to state the obvious…opinions vary. In my opinion I believe that New Moon does belong on this list. It is indeed no small achievement to write a book that has such mass appeal and speaks to people on many different levels even though, yes, it is simplistic writing. To write somthing that appeals to such a varied audience deserves note in my opinion.

Can the words “best books” and “Twilight” honestly be in the same sentence?

Then again the authors of this list are clearly Twihards, so it’s no wonder.

I have, in fact, read the Twilight series. Nice that you’d doubt my having read it just because I think it’s a terrible story with cardboard characters and terrible, terrible writing, not to mention the awful message it sends to young women about “romantic” behavior. I don’t speak ill of books I haven’t read. In fact, if I hadn’t read it, I wouldn’t have any reason to be so annoyed at its inclusion on a “best of” list, because I wouldn’t know how awful it truly is.

In any case, I won’t be keeping up with the rest of the list. I don’t have high hopes if this is how it starts.

Because I firmly believe what I wrote about the book. It is not a cheap ploy. I doubt that you’ve even read it.

It’s a cheap ploy to get Twilight on the list somehow. It still does not explain why anyone would put such an awful book on any “best” list.

We stated that the only hard and fast rule was “an edition of each book in question had to be published in 2009.” The mass market paperback edition of New Moon was in fact released October 2009.

Uh, no. Any list with Stephenie Meyer’s writing on it is not a “Best Books” list, never mind that New Moon wasn’t published in 2009. This is clearly on this list for one reason and one reason only — the movie came out this year. Any merit the rest of this list had is lost because of this inclusion.
