Rock Band - Smashing Pumpkins And The Mother Hips

As the rest of the video gaming world is furiously racking up felonies in Liberty City, Rock Band has rolled out three new tracks today. The new songs are available for download individually for 160 MS points ($2) each. Here’s what’s up for grabs:

The downloadable content for Rock Band next week will be a big one, as Harmonix has pulled the veil away from their first full downloadable album: Screaming for Vengeance by Judas Priest. The album will be available in its entirety for 1200 MS Points ($15), or you can grab each individual song for 160 MS Points ($2) a piece. The album and singles all will be available for download via XBox Live on Tuesday, April 22.

In addition to announcing the Judas Priest album, Harmonix also announced that The Cars’ self-titled album and Doolittle by The Pixies are in the pipeline and will be coming soon.

Mötley Crüe Releases New Single on Rock Band

Today sees the release of the aforementioned Classic Rock pack on Rock Band, which includes “Call Me” by Blondie, “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and “Message in a Bottle” by the Police. Sneaking in almost under the radar is what may be an even more significant release. Available as an individual track today is “Saints of Los Angeles” by Mötley Crüe. This marks the very first time a band has debuted a new single via Rock Band. Being an inaugural track release, this could send important signals to the music industry and could help determine whether more brand new songs get their initial distribution through Rock Band, as opposed to solely through the traditional CD / iTunes / radio releases.

“Saints of Los Angeles” is 80MS Points ($1) for a limited time. All the other tracks released today are 160 MS Points ($2) each, or you can get all three of the classic rock tracks in a pack together for 440 MS Points ($5.50).

McFarlane Brings Free Halo Picture Pack and Theme To X-Box 360

McFarlane Toys has announced that they are brining a free Halo 3 theme and picture pack to the X-Box 360 on Monday, April 14. The picture pack will have 15 all new gamerpics based on McFarlane’s line of Halo action figures, while the theme will feature photos of the figures in action.

Classic Rock Hits Come To Rock Band

Harmonix has announced next week’s DLC for Rock Band, and it consists of:

  • “Call Me” by Blondie - 160 MS Points ($2)
  • “Message in a Bottle” by The Police - 160 MS Points ($2)
  • “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd - 160 MS Points ($2)

There also will be a Classic Rock pack for 440 MS Points ($5.50) that will let you download all three songs at once for some savings. All three songs are master tracks from the original artists, and they’ll be available for download on the X-Box 360 Marketplace on Tuesday. The Playstation Store is still down for upgrades, so it’ll be Thursday before these tracks show up for the PS3.
