The SciFi Channel has announced yet another prequel to Battlestar Galactica that will be airing after the critically acclaimed series ends its four season run next year. The previously announced prequel series called Caprica will show the origins of the Cylons in the Colonies some fifty years prior to the events of the main BSG series. This newest–and as yet unnamed–prequel is a different animal, taking place concurrently with some of the events we’ve already seen in Battlestar Galactica.
Directed by Edward James Olmos, the new Galactica prequel will be a movie that is being written by all-star TV scribe Jane Espenson, and it will be shot in Vancouver like the rest of the series. The movie will show the Cylon side of the human apocalypse, focusing on two Cylon agents just after the nukes obliterated humanity. One of the agents’ stories will take place on board the shell-shocked fleet in the initial days of their flight across the galaxy, and the other takes a look at what the human Resistance was up to, ground-side.
The movie will air on SciFi and then will be released on DVD, similarly to the way the previous BSG feature, Razor, was handled.

And there we have it! Once again, Russell T. Davies and company have given us another spectacular series of our favorite Time Lord, proving that there is no other TV show on the face of the Earth that has more variety in its scenery, its characters, and its stories. The only downside is that we won’t be seeing another full series of the show until 2010. Sure we’ve got the four upcoming specials, and we’ve got Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, but it ain’t the same with out that little blue box flying around.
And now for a bit of nostalgia. He are a series of mini lists looking back on the best bits of Doctor Who: Series Four.

www.outpostgallifrey.com has just announced that an old friend will be joining an old friend. Nicholas Courtney, known by Doctor Who fans far and wide as former UNIT Officer Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge Stewart, will be making a guest appearance in the Doctor Who spin-off “The Sarah Jane Adventures” during the course of the second series.
Outpost Gallifrey also hints at the return of Sarah Jane’s nemesis Miss Wormwod (played by Samantha Bond) who appeared in SJA’s first episode “Invasion of the Bane.”
Since I hate spoilers as much as Steven Moffat, I recommend checking www.outpostgallifrey.com for pictures and additional info.

J.J. Abrams is well known in the TV world as the creator of Felicity, Alias, Lost, and the upcoming Fringe. Now his name to the ranks of TV creators whose work has leapt from the small screen into the comic book realm, as DC Comics has announced a new comics series based on Fringe.
Other recent TV-to-comics spinoffs include Buffy the Vampire Slayer at Dark Horse, Angel at IDW, Chuck at DC, and Supernatural at DC. Fringe looks to be very much in the vein of The X-Files, but trailers indicate that it will have an Alias style of action.
The first issue of the comics series is set to hit stands on August 27, with the TV premiere following two weeks later.

When Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles returns for its second season, it will have gained a new high profile cast member. Garbage lead singer Shirley Manson has signed on to play Catherine Weaver, “the CEO of a cutting-edge high-tech company.” With the Connors gunning for SkyNet, one has to wonder whether Weaver’s character might be instrumental in the eventual building of the Terminator program.

In a recent episode of Lost, the ageless Richard Alpert presented a young John Locke with a copy of Mystery Tales #40, a real comic book from the 1950’s, the era of Locke’s flashback episode. As with most things on Lost, what might have been a throwaway prop could also be the key to a number of the show’s mysteries.
A group of Lost fans has banded together to purchase an authentic copy of the rare comic via eBay. They ponied up $417 and now are posting the entire issue page by page on their blog, along with interesting analysis of the comic’s story as it might (or might not) relate to what’s been going on with Lost.
Among the hints they have picked up from the issue so far are references to the black smoke, ancient civilizations (perhaps like the one that constructed the four-toed statue?), and shadowy “others.” A lot of what they’re tying into Lost is very open to interpretation, but I tend to think that at this point the producers wouldn’t include a specific comic book without having an agenda behind it.

Doctor Who has become huge for both BBC and the SciFi Channel, so news of this magnitude is bound to cause some level of anxiety. But relax and take a deep breath; it’s going to be alright. Russel T. Davies is stepping down as the executive producer of Doctor Who, and the job will be filled by the entirely capable and award-winning talent of Steven Moffat. Who fans will recognize Moffat as the writer of such favorite episodes as “The Empty Child”, “The Girl in the Fireplace”, and “Blink.”
After the current fourth season ends, there’s going to be a long break until season five begins in the spring of 2010. Don’t despair, though! There are plans for four specials (ala the yearly Christmas special) throughout 2009 to tide us over.
