It seems to me that the whole movie is full of all shades of gray.Col.Quaritch himself also is niether a hero or villian(it is possible both he and Jake lean more to being antiheros-antiheros tend to be all shades of gray, they are sometimes heros who are capable of doing both villianous or heroic acts, it depends on where they stand personally, they seem to have their own personal agendas. If they do make a sequel ,who knows Col Quaritch could be brought back miraculously and be the protagonist in Avatar2 ,fighting some other villian, even if it turns out to be Jake Sully(who tells the story of the first Avatar movie from his point of view, perhaps Col.Quaritch will tell his point of view in Avatar2 or he and Jake could join forces and fight another RDA villian,it seems RDA corporation is the true villain in Avatar like "Skynet" in Cameron's Terminator movies,The Terminator started off as the villian in Terminator only to end up being the hero\goodguy in T2,Cameron may try to pull this off in Avatar2).
But Avatar seems to be a movie about war and hate, and in war and hate there are no winners,no matter what side you choose,no matter where you stand in your beliefs, regaurdless of who drew first blood."where are the peacemakers?" Where does the hate end?-TNelso16

I have a question. Where was Tom Sully's avatar as his brothers Avatar was newly made and had to grow in a tank during the trip to Pandora?

I like the Avatar 3D movie, especially the story line, not only it brings a very new sensation but eye opening thoughts of humanity. I heard the New Avatar 2 is comming soon, cannot wait to watch it again...!

I have to say that I don't really see Avatar as science fiction at all. None of the science fictions type trappings are necessary to the central plot. Science fantasy maybe. Perhaps if the aliens really were aliens (as they were in the aforementioned District 9) instead of American Indians in blue suits, we'd have been getting somewhere or if the protagonist was really only offered the option of walking by the Avatar tech (but as stated in the movie, this was available by medical operations)

Hi

I was thinking it was sci-fi but my sister was thinking it was fantasy but she never thinks anything is sci-fi except star trek and star gate.

How come you say that the unobtanium was needed to save the human race? I don't remember them saying that in the movie. I do remember them saying that it sells for a bucket load of money and that all the shareholders care about is their quarterly statement.

The unobtanium seemed more for human greed than survival.

funny, first thing I thought when I saw it was it's 'pixars dances with wolves' it's really more of a fantasy sci-fi mix.
