Welcome back to another Fandom Tumblr of the Week! Last week we featured an awesome blog that explores retro Star Wars fandom, and this week we’re going in an entirely different direction by breaching the world of fashion. Check out the featured Tumblr, and be sure to come back next week for another helping of Internet geekery. And in the meantime, feel free to leave a comment with suggestions of other Tumblrs we should check out for future Fandom Tumblr of the Week installments!
Fandom(s): Various, interpreted into clothing
Theme or gimmick: Got some favorite fictional characters? Now you can see outfits inspired by them!
Tumblr intro: “Video games have a high aesthetic quality, whether it’s detailed graphics, intricate environments, or stylized characters. Fashion shares this quality. Thus, Console to Closet was born. I create outfits inspired by my favorite video game characters, items, and places.”
When it started: April 16, 2012
Why it’s great: When fans express their fandom through attire, it’s usually in the form of either cosplay or geeky T-shirts. Console to Closet lifts the concept to the next level of abstraction by creating actual and brilliant outfits inspired by specific characters. The clothing featured there draws upon elements of character design but does not go as far as assembling exact replicas of characters’ costumes. Rather, Console to Closet presents visually interesting fashion that conveys a love for fandom infused with personal fashion.
