Vanity Fair sure knows how to throw an event. Everything was absolutely perfect. No goofs, plenty of special surprises, movie stars in the audience, and best of all, they validated your parking ticket. Now that’s classy.

Hollywood Boulevard was filled with movie star hopefuls dressed as movie characters as I entered the hallowed lobby of one of the most famous movie palaces of all time — Grauman’s Chinese Theatre — for the first-ever TCM Classic Film Festival. On my first day there, I saw Sweet Smell of Success and The Producers.

DVD Review: The 39 Steps (BBC 2008)
The BBC adaptation of the classic thriller The 39 Steps is, by my calculations, the fifth version of John Buchan’s 1915 book. The incredible landscape of Scotland, vivid colors, and gentle acting performances give credence to director James Hawes’s decision to follow the book more closely than any other film adaptation.
