Gamefly Wants Your Old Games

Gamefly

Until now, Gamefly has been all about game rentals and used game sales. Now, however, they’re entering the realm of used game trade-ins. Select Gamefly customers have been invited into a beta program for the new trade-in system, which allows you to send your old games back to Gamefly and exchange them for credit toward your monthly Gamefly fees. The trade-in values for some sample newer games include Bioshock at $23, Lost Odyssey at $31.62, and Halo 3 at $23.

“Still Alive” Is Downloadable NOW

Joco

Contrary to the April 1 release that Harmonix announced earlier today for Jonathan Coulton’s “Still Alive” free downloadable song for Rock Band, the song is actually available now. If you have Rock Band for the XBox 360, there’s really no reason at all for your not leaving the computer to go get this immediately.

Gears of War Movie News

Gearsofwar

ComingSoon has an update about the previously announced Gears of War movie adaptation today. A statement from producer Wyck Godfrey (Alien Vs Predator and I, Robot) reveals, “We’ve got our script on and a director we’re about to attach. We’ll hopefully make that early next year for the summer of 2010.”

Gears of War is a bestselling first person shooter game on the XBox 360 and PC that pits human soldiers against a race of subterranean monsters called the Locust Horde. Cliff “Cliffy B” Bleszinski was the lead designer of the game, and he’s also worked on the treatment for the movie adaptation. Prior to the movie release, though, we can expect the game sequel to Gears to hit in November 2008.

“Still Alive” For Free On Rock Band!

Portal

Harmonix has announced that this week’s Rock Band downloadable content will be none other than “Still Alive” by Jonathan Coulton, from the hit game Portal. This song has been a hugely anticipated release ever since JoCo made the official announcement about it coming to the game when he played it Rock Band-style in concert (see the video evidence below). Even better, the song will cost you every bit of ZERO dollars!

“Still Alive” releases on the XBox 360 tomorrow (April 1), but it won’t be on the Playstation 3 for a couple more weeks due to work Sony is doing on the PSN store.

Settlers of Catan Gets Simplified

Catan

Mayfair Games has announced that they will be releasing a new version of the Settlers of Catan board game in September. This new edition will simplify the overall game to make it more appealing to new players.

Some of the planned changes include reducing the number of different game tiles from 19 to 6, decreasing the size of the resource cards, and including plastic playing pieces instead of the traditional wooden ones. Likewise, the marketing for the new version will be towards more of a mass-market. The packaging will not have the regular game’s “oil painting-esque” look, but will be more in line with other American board games on the market. This new version also will be available at mass market, including Toys R Us stores. The new Settlers will retail for $33, lower than the $42 price point of the classic game.

The Dark Knight is slated for a July 18 release.

New Firefly Box Set Coming

Kaylee

Jewel Staite was a guest at the Supanova Expo in Melbourne, Australia, this weekend. During her Q&A, she mentioned that a new special edition Firefly box set is coming. She didn’t share any details about the rerelease other than that she’s been asked to provide a commentary for it in the spring. Online speculation is that this could be a high-def format of the series, but only time will tell. It seems like a no-brainer that a new Firefly release would be coming, given the first DVD set’s huge, movie-prompting success. Serenity2.net has the YouTube video of Jewel’s session.
