Fable II Coming October 21, and It Has Toys!

Tags: , , , ,

Fable II topped my recent list of my most anticipated video games, and it’s still the game I’m practically foaming at the mouth to play. Sure, Peter Molyneux might have fooled me once with Black & White. Or twice with Black & White 2. Or three times with Fable. Or… okay, enough, Fable 2 is going to be awesome. End of story. And now we know exactly when to expect that awesomeness to be landing on the XBox 360.

October 21 is the official release date, and courtesy of the Gamerscore Blog, here’s a rundown of what goodies you can look forward to if you pick up the limited edition:

  • DVD with “Making Of” feature
  • Extra in-game content, including a new dungeon, an additional weapon, and an “Otherworldly Bonus”
  • A special edition Hobbe Qee figure
  • 48-hour XBox Live Gold trial code
  • Five printed Fate cards

The regular edition will be $59.99, and the limited edition will be $79.99. Both editions will net you a free download code for Fable 2 Pub Games if you place your preorder while supplies last.

G4’s The Feed has the scoop that Ozzy Osbourne will be making a digital appearance in the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour game. Ozzy will be joining the ranks of Aerosmith, Slash, and Bret Michaels by having his likeness singing along to your guitar riffs as you play through the game. In addition to his frightening visage, Osbourne also is lending the songs “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley” to the track list. Guitar Hero World Tour will be hitting consoles in October.

Battlestar Galactica: Meanwhile, Back at the Basestar

Tags: , , , ,

The SciFi Channel has announced yet another prequel to Battlestar Galactica that will be airing after the critically acclaimed series ends its four season run next year. The previously announced prequel series called Caprica will show the origins of the Cylons in the Colonies some fifty years prior to the events of the main BSG series. This newest–and as yet unnamed–prequel is a different animal, taking place concurrently with some of the events we’ve already seen in Battlestar Galactica.

Directed by Edward James Olmos, the new Galactica prequel will be a movie that is being written by all-star TV scribe Jane Espenson, and it will be shot in Vancouver like the rest of the series. The movie will show the Cylon side of the human apocalypse, focusing on two Cylon agents just after the nukes obliterated humanity. One of the agents’ stories will take place on board the shell-shocked fleet in the initial days of their flight across the galaxy, and the other takes a look at what the human Resistance was up to, ground-side.

The movie will air on SciFi and then will be released on DVD, similarly to the way the previous BSG feature, Razor, was handled.

Book Review: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon

I have to admit, I had somewhat low expectations for this book. It had been recommended to me with rave reviews, but it seemed, based on the description, to be a dry read. I had expected a story about how two kids came up with a comic book and ran with it, but what I got was a page turner that took me from Prague to New York, to Antarctica, and places in between. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay didn’t only chronicle the lives of two Jewish cousins and how they achieved success in the comic book industry (although success for whom is certainly a question raised) but also the motivation behind their enterprise.

Comics Giveaway: Week 1 Winner and Week 2 Begins!

Tags: , ,

Congratulations to the winner of the first week of comic book giveaways here at Fandomania, Brendoman! I did the drawing earlier today, and he’ll be receiving a package with twenty comics shortly. Now on to week 2! I still have a sizeable stack of these comics to get rid of, so here’s the deal:

Reply to this post and tell me the most geektastic thing you’ve done this summer, and you’ll be entered in a drawing to win a random stack of 20 of these comics. Be sure to use your real e-mail address when you reply, or I won’t be able to contact you if you win.

Keep in mind that these are not minty-mint collector grade comics. They’re the actual copies we read here when we write up reviews, so they ain’t perfect. They’re great for reading, though, so why not give it a shot and get these things off my hands?

The contest will run until next Wednesday, August 13, at 12:00am Eastern time. At that time I’ll draw a winner, and then I’ll start up another one of these later in the day. You can expect comic giveaways like this each week until I get rid of this mountain of issues.

The Top 4’s of Doctor Who Series 4

And there we have it! Once again, Russell T. Davies and company have given us another spectacular series of our favorite Time Lord, proving that there is no other TV show on the face of the Earth that has more variety in its scenery, its characters, and its stories. The only downside is that we won’t be seeing another full series of the show until 2010. Sure we’ve got the four upcoming specials, and we’ve got Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, but it ain’t the same with out that little blue box flying around.

And now for a bit of nostalgia. He are a series of mini lists looking back on the best bits of Doctor Who: Series Four.

Grant Gould Talks Wolves of Odin and Star Wars

Grant Gould is a name that has become more and more known among comic and trading card fans over the past few years. He’s a personal friend of mine and also is the artist who designed the mascot for my toy blog, Mechazilla. You can check out his official website and art portfolio at GrantGould.com. It’s been a busy year for Grant, and freshly back from the San Diego Comic Con, he was able to take some time to talk with me about what he’s been up to and what new and awesome things he has in the works.

Keep driving! We have to get away from Rob Cohen before he casts us in "Stealth 2!"

John had the dubious pleasure of seeing The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor this weekend, and you’d better believe he has some opinions to share about it. His review (with spoilers) follows, after the jump.

Review: Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2

Tags: , , , ,

Way back when the XBox 360 first launched, I remember my inaugural dip into the XBox Live Arcade including the download of the Geometry Wars demo. GW was a psychadelic flurry of crazy, reflex-demanding action, and I played the heck out of that demo. I never got around to actually buying the game, but I definitely logged some time on that demo. Now Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 is out, and I did drop my hard earned Microsoft points for this one. Is it worth the 800 points, or should I have just stuck with my demo-playing practices of old? Read on for my review after the jump.
